...you find yourself jumping up and shattering glass with "hooray!" when you've heard a difficult passage three times in a row perfectly...
...your music case has officially turned into an entertainment bag: bouncy balls, stickers, colored pens, 18-sided die, and "little friends" Cocoa, Alice, Plum, and Chippy...
...you can turn ANYTHING into a technique analogy - including the strawberry jello brain someone once brought to science class...
...every week, over 20 children march in your door, walk into your music room, and wrap your heart around their little fingers...
I.
LOVE.
TEACHING.
Period. End of story.

Oh, oh, oh! I get warm fuzzies thinking about it. I do all of those things too. ;-) And I have to wholeheartedly agree with you--I LOVE MUSIC TEACHING!
Of course, it's not always easy--like last night, when my six year-old student had dirty hands AGAIN, and I sent her to wash them, whereupon her mother sat in stony, annoyed silence, and the girl took five minutes too long, whereupon I went to check on her only to find the faucet stuck and water running uncontrollably. And after that incident, of course, concentration was out the window, and silly giggles and failure to listen reigned, culminating in the girl falling upon her head with a "smack" that produced much sobbing and a very somber ending to an unusual lesson. Even then, it was an opportunity for me to teach, to maintain composure and begin to show this six year old how to do the same. She may not have gotten much violin instruction last night, but she got a whole lot more!
And that picture you chose is darling!
I'd have to agree with you too!
Hi Sarah,
this Marissa Bingham from Texas, so when I finally got internet back my computer crashed and I lost your email address. So do you still have mine? I was writing you back think I didn't need you email to resound then I realized I could not find your email address anywhere.
Glad your teaching is going well, I have been enjoying getting back in to the swing of teaching also.
Oh yes! Ditto to everything! (-:
Mika, yes, despite our love for teaching, things don't always run quite smoothly, do they? Last week, I had one student get all dizzy/light-headed/almost-pass-out on me... So the "lesson" was held over a glass of cold water and a whole wheat roll!
Kirsteen & Lauren, 'tis so fun! :)
